Amongst the many reminiscences and accounts shared here every week, ships, very understandably, have featured regularly.

Little wonder! We live on an island where the sea and our maritime heritage profoundly affects us in every way.

BIMCO: Supply Overtaking Demand in Dry Bulk Shipping

The outlook for 2015 looks a bit dull on the demand side for dry bulk shipping, whereas the supply side seems to provide the same amount of new capacity as in 2014, BIMCO forecasts.

As explained, such a development will not improve the fundamental market balance and Supramaxes in particular seem to be challenged by a high inflow of new tonnage.

BIMCO said that the order book is currently low, a sign of poor freight market conditions, with 55 million DWT ordered so far in 2014.

China is set to build 62% of the dry bulk order book as it currently stands, with Japan in a distant second place, with 27% being placed at Japanese shipyards.

El Globe, el buque de carga más grande del mundo, en su paso por el puerto británico de Felixstowe.

Mide más de 400 metros de largo –el equivalente a ocho piscinas olímpicas- y puede transportar hasta 186.000 toneladas de carga.

Se trata del Globe, el buque de carga más grande del mundo, que esta semana arribó por primera vez a Reino Unido como parte de su viaje inaugural.

El periodista de la BBC Justin Parkinson explica cuán poderoso es este superbarco, y en cuánto tiempo será superado por uno aún más grande.

A pesar de su enorme tamaño, el aspecto más único del Globe es su capacidad: puede transportar 19.100 contenedores de unos 6 metros cada

The first four Advanced Rotortugs of the ART80-32 class, incorporating the unique triple Azimuth drive concept, were delivered to their owners Elisabeth Ltd during the last two months of 2014 for use by Kotug International. 'RT Evolution' and 'RT Emotion' with Hybrid propulsion systems were built by Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld –Giessendam in the Safe Ltd facility in Gdynia and are currently stationed in Rotterdam.

<spanarial",sans-serif;>A second pair RT Discovery and RT Endeavourwere delivered by the Cheoy Lee Shipyards in Hong Kong, to the same owners for use by Kotug and their joint venture partners in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
