Sixteen Indian-flagged vessels remain stranded in the Persian Gulf amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, even as cargo movements continue through the Strait of Hormuz, and two LPG carriers have managed to cross and head towards India, Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, has said.

For more than two weeks now, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted. Several vessels have been attacked, and many others have been stuck on the two ends of the strait, unwilling to take the risk of passing through.

During 2025, Fire Safety Code 07105 – Fire doors/openings in fire-resisting divisions was the most frequently recorded deficiency code worldwide across all ship segments. It accounted for 2.57% of the total deficiencies reported for the global ocean-going fleet (157,253 deficiencies).
This code was identified in 4,547 inspections, representing 6% of the 75,168 inspections conducted during CY2025, and it was responsible for 331 detentions as a detainable deficiency.

OTTAWA -- Two Canadian cargo ships are stuck in the Persian Gulf and are unable to pass through the blocked Strait of Hormuz as the war in Iran continues.
The Miena Desgagnes and the Rosaire A. Desgagnes -- owned by Quebec-based Desgagnes -- were hauling general cargo to ports in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
