Tras la llegada de los buques de la clase Megamax (MGX) de 23.500 TEUs y 399 metros de eslora,  se esta evaluando por parte de navieras y astilleros, si tiene sentido una nave post-megamax.

 

En los últimos años, los buques portacontenedores Megamax en el rango de capacidad entre 18.000 y 24.000 TEUs, se han convertido en el barco 'estándar' en las líneas este–oeste, dominando el comercio con el Lejano Oriente y Europa. Hoy en día, surcan los océanos 139 de estos barcos, con al menos 50 órdenes de fabricación más para los próximos tres años.
