By Mike Corkhill The LNG shipping industry is under great pressure to secure the crews necessary to accommodate a major expansion in fleet size. In terms of numbers the current orderbook of 125 vessels represents 32% of the existing world fleet of 393 LNG carriers. Over 90% of this orderbook is due for delivery over the 2014-2016 period and the total orderbook is likely to require an additional 2,000 LNGC officers.

Ciudad y Marina Mercante han llegado a un preacuerdo sobre el pliego de condiciones del nuevo contrato marítimo. La reunión celebrada el martes en Madrid entre los responsables de Marina Mercante y el viceconsejero de Turismo, Javier Mateo, y el consejero de Economía, Daniel Conesa, ha servido para acercar posturas, aunque aún no hay un documento definitivo. Mateo aseguró ayer a El Faro que el pliego se está redactando y se enviará a ambas partes. Una vez que se analice, si todos están de acuerdo, se publicará en el Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) y luego se abrirá el proceso de adjudicación.

The Wärtsilä AQUARIUS READY solution is a phased process that enables cost savings and installation flexibility for ship owners preparing their vessels for ballast water treatment regulatory compliance. Having Wärtsilä as a single point of contact between the yard and the different authorities is another significant benefit for the owners.
Two Ro-Ro ferries owned by UK based Condor Ferries are to be retrofitted with Wärtsilä’s new AQUARIUS READY ballast water management system (BWMS) solution. The AQUARIUS READY concept has been developed by Wärtsilä to prepare vessels for the fitting of BWMS, while minimising vessel downtime, thereby enabling more efficient operations.The contract was signed in February 2014 and the final equipment delivery will take place within 12 months from
