US Marines boarded an Iranian-flagged commercial vessel in the Arabian Sea on April 19 after a six-hour standoff, rappelling from helicopters launched from the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday morning.

The operation came after the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance disabled the ship’s propulsion when it failed to comply with repeated US warnings, the statement said.

Trascribimos uno de los pasajes de la entrevista, por considerar que es un fiel reflejo de la sensibilidad social del naviero frente a la crítica situación que están viviendo muchas dotaciones atrapadas en el Golfo Pérsico. Como se recordará hay uno 20 000 marinos civiles atrapados en el Pérsico desde el pasado 28 de febrero, fecha en la que EEUU e Israel agredieron militarmente a Irán.

‘World-first’ as ammonia-fuelled two-stroke engine passes quality assurance

Swiss marine power company WinGD has completed what it says is the world’s first type approval (TAT) and factory acceptance testing (FAT) for an ammonia-fuelled two-stroke marine engine.

Both TAT and FAT programs were completed last month, with testing of the X52DF-A-1.0 engine carried out at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Engine & Machinery (HHI-EMD) facility in South Korea, witnessed by classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR), with representatives from all major classification societies, supervised by Belgian shipping company EXMAR.

 

The testing was carried out on a 52-bore engine to be installed on a 46,000m3 LPG/ammonia carrier on order for EXMAR. According to WinGD, the vessels in the series are set to become the first ammonia-fuelled gas carriers

President Donald Trump has ordered the US navy to blockade the Strait of Hormuz after peace talks with Iran failed in Islamabad. The Lebanese Prime Minsiter, meanwhile, said he was working to stop the Israel-Hezbollah war, ahead of talks in Washington on Tuesday.

While acknowledging that the negotiations in Pakistan had gone "well" and "most points were agreed to," Trump said Tehran had refused to concede on the issue of its nuclear program.

"Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz," Trump said on his Truth
