    It came as a surprise when JD Vance left so quickly after negotiations concluded.

    There had been anticipation that talks would resume at around 09:00 GMT, but Vance made a press statement saying there was no deal and shortly after left the country.

    One of the key sticking points was the US unwillingness to make any commitment on halting Israeli aggression against Lebanon. The US terms regarding security in the Strait of Hormuz were also deemed unacceptable by Iran.

    Those sticking points ultimately became the central obstacle. The breakdown comes against the backdrop of the indiscriminate bombing of Beirut, in which hundreds of people were killed and which drew widespread international condemnation widely seen as a breach of the ceasefire.

    Pakistan has called for lines of communication to remain open and would like to see the ceasefire agreement extended. But the ball is now in Washington’s court, and all eyes will be on what Donald Trump has to say about the fate of these talks.

  • Israeli strike in southern Lebanon kills 5

    Lebanon’s National News Agency is reporting that an Israeli strike on the southern town of Qana has killed five people and wounded others.

    Civil defence teams were working to evacuate the wounded and transport them to hospitals in the nearby city of Tyre, NNA said.

    Israel also launched separate attacks on other communities across the Tyre district, wounding at least three people in Ma’raka, it added.

    The town of Qana has previously suffered Israeli massacres, including in 1996 and 2006.

  • Iran’s delegation leaves Pakistan

    The Mehr news agency says the delegation, which included Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has also departed from Pakistan.

    The report comes after US Vice President JD Vance departed Islamabad after saying that a deal has not been reached and that Iranians have rejected Washington’s demands.
