El presidente del comité de empresa de Navantia San Fernando, Jesús Peralta, asegura que la firma por parte de la Dirección General de Armamento y Material (DGAM) de la orden de ejecución del Buque de Acción Marítima (BAM) en los astilleros de la Bahía de Cádiz, que se prevé se lleve a cabo este viernes, contribuye a «recuperar la tranquilidad» de los trabajadores. La construcción de este BAM supone «casi un millón de horas de trabajo».

 

Peralta destaca que la ejecución del BAM es «un buen comienzo» para los astilleros de la Bahía de Cádiz, pero que «no es suficiente carga para mantener la actividad en ellos».

NES is supplying electrical equipment for two new Havyard HD843 ICE icebreakers

Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) has announced a recent contract to supply complete electric systems for two new icebreakers.

The ships are being built at Havyard Shipyard in Leirvik, to DNV ice class Icebreaker Ice 10 and Winterized Cold (-30o C) which means that the ship can break ice over 1m thick and is equipped with an icing avoidance system. The order value is said to be NOK 35million.

The scope of supply is for a 450V 60Hz system comprising:

  • two shaft generators NEGR 630LA6, 3,000kVA at 1,200rpm;
  • two aux generators NEG 355 MB4,750kVA

The question of what exactly constitutes an eco-ship has puzzled the industry for some time   

The OECD should be cautious about becoming involved in the question of what constitutes an ‘eco-ship’, was the message delivered to governments in Paris by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) at a meeting of the OECD Working Party on Shipbuilding.

ICS believes that this subject is best left to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) or for shipyards to negotiate with their customers. If further consideration were to be given to an OECD definition of ‘eco-ship’ this should not be used as a justification for future subsidies by governments that might lead to market distortion.
