El buque Stellar Banner, que transportaba hierro desde el Puerto de Terminal Marítima de Ponta da Madeira, en São Luís, Brasil, fue hundido a unos 150 kilómetros de la costa de Maranhão.
La embarcación, que transportaba el mineral producido por Vale, sufrió daños en su proa el pasado 26 de febrero, tras lo cual se iniciaron diversas operaciones de salvataje, contención y extracción del combustible de la nave granelera que, al momento del incidente, era ocupada por 20 tripulantes.

Thirty-Nine Bulk Carriers Lost Over the Last Ten Years
INTERCARGO has published its Bulk Carrier Casualty Report 2019 providing an analysis of casualty statistics covering the years 2010 to 2019.
Thirty-nine bulk carriers with 173 seafarers were reported lost over that period, based on available reports of total losses and constructive total losses from public sources and IMO’s GISIS.
Cargo shift and/or liquefaction is one of the greatest concerns for the safe carriage of dry bulk over the past 10 years, likely to be the main reason behind eight bulk carrier casualties and 106 seafarers losing their lives. Explosion rocks chemical tanker on Yangtze River

An explosion damaged the 2018-built chemical tanker Qiu Feng 6 on Wednesday and injured two crew members.
The incident occurred when the vessel was sailing near Wuhu on the Yangtze River. A video of the incident shows the crew possibly washing the tank when the explosion happened.
Three crew jumped into the water and were later picked up by a rescue team and another two crew were injured and sent to hospital for emergency treatment, while the other four crew members onboard were unharmed.
The fire triggered by the explosion was put out and authorities have started investigations into the cause of the incident.
The vessel is owned by Yangzhou Yuhua Shipping, which mainly operates ships carrying hazardous cargo on the Yangtze.
