OS 35 now entirely sits on the sea bed but residual oil is leaking from wreck
Most port operations in Gibraltar, including bunkering, were again suspended as clean-up teams worked to control residual oil that leaked from the wrecked bulker OS 35. Fishing was suspended and some beaches were also closed with authorities advising against swimming after additional oil was released from the vessel.
The Gibraltar government reports that the salvage team was successful in their planned operation to sink the stern section of the vessel, which had remained afloat after the vessel cracked. As of Saturday, September 17, they reported that the stern was

Salvors will on Friday flood the stern section of the wreck of the OS 35 to sink it to the seabed and give the damaged hull additional stability ahead of a Levanter storm forecast this weekend.
Flooding the stern section will mean the entire vessel will be resting on the seabed in around 16 metres of water, minimising the impact of swells on the buckled hull.
The hope is that by settling the entire hull on the sandy seabed, the wreck will remain intact even in swells that according to forecasts could potentially reach up to three metres on Sunday and Monday.
The plan was drawn up by Resolve Marine, the salvage company tasked with dealing with the wreck, and was approved

La CIAIM sostienen que la bajada al pecio puede contribuir a contrastar algunas informaciones recibidas y aportar datos de interés para la investigación
A Comisión Permanente de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes Marítimos (Ciaim), que depende del Ministerio de Transportes, ha señalado que la inspección del pecio ‘Villa de Pitanxo’, hundido el pasado mes de febrero a 450 kilómetros de Terra Nova (Canadá), podría “contribuir a contrastar algunas de las informaciones recibidas” así como a “obtener otros datos o detalles de interés para la investigación”.
Así lo ha destacado la Ciaim en un escrito publicado el pasado 5 de septiembre en el que se explica que se han iniciado distintas consultas para determinar los medios técnicos necesarios y el coste
