MY FELLOW AMERICANS:
This is a memorable day in the history of American shipbuilding--a memorable day in the emergency defense of the nation. Today, from dawn to dark, fourteen ships are being launched--on the Atlantic, on the Pacific and on the Gulf and among them is the first Liberty ship, the Patrick Henry.
While we are proud of what we are doing, this is certainly no time to be content. We must build more cargo ships and still more cargo ships--and we must speed the program until we achieve a launching each day, then two ships a day, fulfilling the building program undertaken by the Maritime Commission.

This Day in History… June 20, 1819
On June 20, 1819, the SS Savannah arrived in Liverpool, England, becoming the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The Savannah was original developed as a sailing packet at the New York shipyard of Fickett & Crockett in 1818. While the ship was still being constructed, Captain Moses Rogers convinced a prosperous shipping firm from Savannah, Georgia, to purchase the ship, convert it to a steamship, and gain the attention and a place in history as the first transatlantic steamship service. The firm agreed and then had the ship fitted with an auxiliary steam engine and paddle wheels, while still maintaining its sails.

El alcalde de Sevilla, Antonio Muñoz, ha participado hoy en el acto de revista naval que S.M. el Rey Felipe VI ha presidido en aguas costeras de Sanlúcar de Barrameda con motivo del V Centenario de la llegada de Juan Sebastián Elcano tras la primera circunnavegación a la tierra.
En este contexto, Sevilla protagoniza desde el jueves y hasta el domingo una amplia agenda de actos institucionales, lúdicos y culturales con los que
500 años tirados por la borda.

Juan de la Cosa levantó una carta universal en unas vacaciones de verano.
Y la Armada Española, la más grande cuantas hayan existido.
¡Que vergüenza que en pleno siglo XXI y gobernando una coalición, que dice ser de izquierdas, se derrochen recursos públicos en retorcer desvirtuar la historia de la Marina Civil?
