US President Donald Trump has called on allies to send ships to secure the Strait of Hormuz, effectively closed since the war in Iran started last month, and responsible for one-fifth of global oil traffic. If allies do not respond to the US or react negatively, Trump has threatened a "bad future" for NATO.

Drones, cruise missiles and fighter jets have become a common sight for many sailors stranded on oil tankers and freight ships in the Gulf, after Iran threatened to open fire on any vessels trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz, in response to US-Israeli attacks.

In recent days there has been a growing number of reported attacks on ships in the Gulf region, as Iran responded to attacks by the US and Israel by threatening to open fire on any vessels trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

Con la firma del convenio colectivo entre los dieciocho tripulantes del Carmen III y la compañía propietaria finalizó ayer una huelga que ha paralizado el buque en el puerto de Bilbao por espacio de 31 días, caso insólito en la historia de la marina mercante española. Recién firmado el pacto, los tripulantes procedieron a vaciar las bodegas para hacerse a la mar inmediatamente, no sin antes celebrar a bordo el final feliz de un conflicto que hace tan sólo unos meses hubiera sido calificado de motín y juzgado por la vía militar.
