Furetank builds advanced ship simulator training centre

Furetank has turned a former office building into a maritime educational centre on Donsö, outside Gothenburg, Sweden: a state-of-the-art ship simulator complex for training, assessment, and certification. From Summer 2023, it will be available for the entire shipping cluster on Donsö, as well as external actors.
The rapid development in the shipping industry demands constant updates of on-board routines and seafarer skills. Greener shipping and the adoption of newer and smarter technologies pose a huge skilling challenge to shipping companies. In tanker shipping, the upcoming launch of an updated ship inspection report programme, SIRE 2.0, will increase demand even further for company-specific courses and skills development.

Andrés Rafael Ortega Piris toma posesión como nuevo director de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Náutica de la UC
El profesor sustituye en el cargo a Antonio Trueba Cortés, que ha ocupado el cargo durante el último año y medio
El rector de la Universidad de Cantabria (UC), Ángel Pazos Carro, ha presidido esta mañana en la sala Juan Jordá del Rectorado el acto de toma de posesión como nuevo director de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Náutica de Andrés Rafael Ortega Piris.
Pazos ha agradecido esta nueva responsabilidad, le ha brindado todo el apoyo en su nuevo desempeño y ha reconocido, asimismo, la labor desarrollada hasta ahora por su antecesor Antonio Trueba Cortés.

El Capitán de Altura, Miguel Ángel Osuna, finalizó hoy su gestión como primer rector de la Universidad Marítima y Portuaria de México (UMPM), luego de dos años al frente de la institución, abriendo una nueva época marcada por la apertura y cambios sin precedentes.
En una carta a la Comunidad Universitaria, Osuna destacó el intenso y apasionado trabajo como Director General del Fideicomiso para la Educación de la Marina Mercante (FIDENA), que llevó a transitar desde hace cinco meses a la Universidad Marítima y Portuaria de México (UMPM).

Universities and research institutes plan to take on a coordination role in European ocean research and education, as the EU gets ready to launch a marine Knowledge and Innovation Community

A group of 14 universities and research institutions from across Europe launched the European Ocean Research and Education Alliance (EOREA) at an event in the European Parliament last week.
The group wants to welcome other institutions with an interest in bringing together this fragmented research sector to contribute more effectively to EU and global policies across oceanic and maritime research, including the Horizon Europe research mission
