The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) evacuation scheme through the Strait of Hormuz for ships trapped in the Arabian Gulf has been paused.

The transit plan launched earlier this week was suspended after the Singapore-flagged Evergreen container ship Ever Lovely was struck by an unknown projectile while 7.5 nm Southeast of Dahit, Oman, according to maritime security firm Vanguard Tech.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the vessel had been hit on the starboard side causing damage to the bridge. The Master reported no damage or environmental impact to the vessel it said.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has opened the 13th session of the Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR 13), with Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez highlighting seafarer safety, maritime communications and digital navigation.

Opening the session on 22 June, Dominguez linked the committee’s work to the upcoming Day of the Seafarer on 25 June, noting this year’s theme — “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks” — as a reminder of the challenges faced by seafarers operating in increasingly complex environments.

 
NCSR agenda focuses on navigation and communications transition

The five-day NCSR 13 session will address a range of issues shaping the future of maritime navigation, communication systems and search and rescue operations.

Two decommissioned nuclear submarines, Conqueror and Courageous at Devonport Naval Dockyard

Residents living in the vicinity of the Royal Navy base in Devonport were alerted to an exercise on Wednesday [June 17] by means of a letter drop which represented iodine tablets - in case there's a nuclear incident at the site.

The routine exercise tests how agencies - such as Plymouth City Council and the Royal Navy - would go about notifying the public about safety measures it would need to take in the unlikely event of a radiation emergency at the Devonport Royal Dockyard.
