Container ports add acreage and terminal space to accommodate growing box volumes.

The busy container port of Long Beach, which handles over eight million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually, is reaping the rewards of its forward-thinking.

About a decade ago, the port invested $4 billion in infrastructure, preparing for big ships and future challenges. Investments went into terminals, dredging, roads and more, says Mario Cordero, the port’s Executive Director.

The $1.5 billion Long Beach International Gateway Bridge replaced the old Gerald Desmond Bridge, dramatically improving traffic flow around the port. The third phase of the Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) was completed in June 2021,

A partir del lunes se empezará a trasladar el mineral por carretera hasta su destino en As Pontes (A Coruña).

Es el Marijeannie, un buque con bandera griega y una eslora de 292 metros. Llega desde Indonesia y esta mañana ha atracado en el puerto exterior de Ferrol, concretamente, en el muelle de descargas de Endesa. En sus bodegas trae 165.000 toneladas de carbón.

Está previsto que a lo largo del día de hoy se inicien las tareas de desestiba para dejar la carga ya fuera del buque y comenzar cuanto antes con su traslado. Previsiblemente el lunes se pueda empezar a transportar la carga hasta las instalaciones de la empresa

Al día se llevarán hasta la central térmica

Massport completed upgrades to expand Boston's container service (Massport)

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) marked the completion of critical infrastructure investments as part of a nearly $850 million plan to upgrade the Port of Boston. The multi-year investment is designed to accommodate bigger ships and is already resulting in new services that are connecting Boston to more global ports.

“Supporting these critical infrastructure projects at Conley Container Terminal is crucial to Massachusetts and New England’s competitiveness in the global marketplace,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “I am thankful for the collaborative efforts of our federal and state partners and Massport to help protect the thousands of local jobs throughout the Commonwealth and the future growth

The ability to move products from A to B has been affected by COVID and Brexit-related bottlenecks in recent years, as well as rising concerns about the environmental impact of how companies supply our goods. The unpredictability of global markets has continued to affect logistics in 2022. In addition to increased congestion at ports around the world, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has created “the most significant disruption to geo-political 'norms' for decades," says global shipping firm Clarksons.

Supply chain issues have added to the cost of living crisis in the UK this year by making it more difficult and expensive to transport products like food around the world. But another new challenge to supply chain capabilities
