New EU Commissioner Sets Shipping Agenda

By MarE

Op-Ed by Simon Bergulf, head of Brussels Representation, Danish Shipowners' Association

The Juncker Commission is the European Commission that will be in office from November 2014 until 2019. Its president is Jean-Claude Juncker. The new European Commission transport commissioner, Violeta Bulc from Slovenia, both praises European shipping and sets new requirements for it.

Following the latest hearings of the Commissioner-candidates, it is clear that the Juncker Commission will not only introduce a new hierarchy among the commissioners (with seven vice-presidents), but also a new focus and guiding principle in all policies.

The former president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, was criticized for lack of vision during his ten years at the helm of the

A communication solution developed by Kongsberg Seatex for the marine seismic sector is set to be a highlight at SEG Denver 2014 (the Society of Exploration Geophysicists Annual Meeting) October 26-31.
According to the developer, the KONGSBERG MBR system enables high speed, high capacity and extremely robust data, voice and video transfer between multiple vessels and other assets. The KONGSBERG MBR is geared toward inter-vessel communication in the seismic industry, where the capability to quickly and reliably transfer data is a significant operational advantage.
The MBR system is a maritime radio network distribution system operating in the 5GHz band and has demonstrated
