New satellite imaging concept proposed by University of Leicester-led team could significantly reduce search areas for missing boats and planes

A space scientist at the University of Leicester, in collaboration with the New Zealand Defence Technology Agency and DMC International Imaging, has been testing a concept for using satellite imagery to significantly improve the chances of locating ships and planes, such as the missing Malaysian flight MH370, lost at sea.

A preliminary study published this month in the International Journal of Remote Sensing, identified 54 satellites with 85 sensors, currently only taking images of land, which could be used to take images of the Earth’s oceans and inland waters.

Sevilla 10/02/2015 – Las organizaciones regantes UPA, Areda y la Asociación de la Pesca y Acuicultura del Bajo Guadalquivir (Pebagua) se han reunido con el director del Espacio Natural de Doñana Juan Carlos Castellano, con el que han coincidido en la postura de rechazo al dragado, atendiendo al informe negativo de la Comisión Científica.

Por su parte, otro colectivo afectado, Feragua, se han reunido con el secretario de Estado de Medio Ambiente, de quien han recibido como contestación que no aprobará ninguna medida que implique incrementar la salinidad de las aguas.

The big container ships that ply the world’s trade routes are growing ever larger, holding down the cost of ocean shipping, but also raising concerns among vessel operators, insurers and regulators about the potential for catastrophic accidents.

The ships, designed to carry freight stowed in large metal containers, transport much of the world’s seaborne cargo, including manufactured goods and, increasingly, farm products. En 2014 no se ha registrado ningún secuestro. Los piratas “están dejando el negocio”

La piratería y los asaltos a buques en Somalia han quedado reducidos a contados episodios esporádicos. En 2014 no se registró ni un solo secuestro, frente a la treintena de incidentes de 2011. Para la Armada española, la misión se da por cumplida aunque el operativo seguirá en activo hasta diciembre de 2016.
