The European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) has warned the European Parliament against "jumping the gun" on shipping climate change action. It was reacting to the suggestion that Europe may try to force the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to decide on measures before the end of 2016. Responding to a resolution passed by the parliament on Wednesday to prepare for the COP21 UN climate talks in Paris in December, ECSA welcomed its recognition of the need to take a global approach to emissions regulation in shipping via the IMO. Spotted: The First of Five ACL’s Newbuilds Ready for Launching
ACL, an American shipping company owned by the Italian Grimaldi Group, is going to launch five new combined container/cars/ro-ro vessels starting by the end of the year.
These ships are the world’s largest in their class, and the first of them, Atlantic Star, will call at the Port of Gothenburg around December 20th, 2015.
ACL, which has been operating in Gothenburg since 1967, selected the Swedish Port of Gothenburg to welcome the first vessel of the G4 fleet this year.
Atlantic Star is a part of the ACL’s G4 Fleet, together with her sister ships Atlantic Sail, Atlantic Sea, Atlantic Sky and Atlantic Sun.

A weak market has forced Viking Supply Ships, a listed Gothenburg-based offshore services vessel operator, to lay up three platform supply vessels.
A company statement said that due to a continuing weak PSV market it had decided to lay up the vessels Idun Viking, Frigg Viking, and Nanna Viking.
The three vessels were built between 2002 and 2006 and have an engine output of about 5,500 bhp. In all, Viking has five PSVs and eight anchor handling tug supply vessels, two of which are open at the moment, according to the company's website.
